The walk

What happens during a walk?

Cissy lets herself in the way you agreed, greets your dog, gets the leash and harness on, and walks the length you booked on a route that suits your dog. Then she settles them back in, refreshes water, and locks up.

  1. Step 1: Arrive & greet

Let in using your agreed access, then a calm hello so your dog isn’t overexcited at the door.

  2. Step 2: Walk

The full booked time out, on leash, at your dog’s pace, with sniff stops built in.

  3. Step 3: Settle in

Paws wiped if needed, fresh water, and your dog back in their usual spot.

  4. Step 4: Lock up

Doors and any alarm set exactly as you asked before leaving.

Frequency

How often does a dog need a midday walk?

If your dog is home alone 8 hours or more on workdays, one midday walk each workday is the usual choice. Puppies and senior dogs often need a shorter break more often.

Most adult dogs do well with a 30-minute walk in the middle of a long day: enough time to relieve themselves, burn some energy, and break up the hours alone. Young, high-energy breeds may need 45 to 60 minutes. Dogs that mostly need a bathroom break, like young puppies or older dogs with less stamina, are often better served by a 15-minute Quick Wag, sometimes twice a day.

Regular, recurring walks also help your dog know what to expect. Many owners book the same time on the same days each week, which also makes scheduling more dependable for everyone.

Denver weather

Do Denver dog walks happen in snow and summer heat?

Yes. Walks continue year-round, with route and length adjusted for heat, snow, ice, and smoky or poor air-quality days so your dog stays comfortable and safe.

  • Golden retriever lying in green summer grass

    Hot pavement

On sunny summer afternoons, asphalt can get far hotter than the air. If the back of your hand can’t rest on it for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for paws. Hot-day walks favor shade, grass, and cooler times.

  • Small doodle bounding through deep snow

    Snow, ice, and de-icer

Denver snow often melts fast, then refreezes. Winter walks slow down on ice, stick to cleared sidewalks, and end with paws wiped of salt and de-icer, which can irritate pads.

  • Aerial view of downtown Denver

    Altitude and air quality

At 5,280 feet the sun is stronger and the air drier, so water matters. On ozone or wildfire-smoke alert days, walks get shorter and calmer.

Choosing a walker

Professional local walker vs. a dog walking app

App marketplaces are convenient for one-off bookings, but the walker can change each time. A local, owner-led service gives you one person who knows your dog, your home, and your routine.

Dog walking FAQ

Questions about Denver dog walks

Are walks private or in a group?

Walk format is confirmed at your meet & greet, based on your dog’s temperament and needs.

Dogs stay on leash, as Denver’s leash law requires on city streets and in most parks.

Do you send photos or updates after a visit?

How you’ll hear about each visit is agreed at your meet & greet so you get updates the way you prefer.

Can you care for puppies, senior dogs, or reactive dogs?

Tell us about your dog when you request a meet & greet. Fit is decided honestly in person, and you won’t be booked for care that isn’t right for your dog.

Short Quick Wag visits suit dogs that need frequent, brief breaks rather than long walks. As a rough guide, young puppies can hold it for about 1 hour per month of age, up to around 6 hours or so for adults, so pups under 4 months often need a midday break.

How do you handle keys and home access?

Access is agreed at your meet & greet: a lockbox, door code, or key, plus alarm instructions if you have one. Details are kept private and used only for your visits.
